History of Protos

The German automobile company "Protos" was founded in 1898, when its founder Alfred Sternberg presented a draft of the compensation engine. Around this type of power unit with three cylinders in 1905 was built race car, developed the power of 100 horsepower. However, racing "Protos" could not compete with more technologically advanced racing cars "Mercedes", so urgently work began on the creation of the civic model, with more simple engine with a capacity of 45 horsepower.

In 1908, the brand "Protos" became part of a large German company "Siemens-Shukert", which allowed engineers to obtain a sufficient amount of funds to work on a new model, called Protos-SOPS and took part in the rally Paris-new York, taking a solid second place. In 1910 the model range of the brand "Protos" was included as a budget car, equipped with a 1.5-litre power unit, and premium sports cars with engine displacement of 6.8 liters. However, the First World War forced Siemens to minimize the production of civil engineering, focusing on the support of the armed forces of the country.

The production of automobiles under the brand name "Protos" was resumed only in 1919, and the lineup consisted of only one model, equipped with a power unit with a capacity of 30 horsepower. And in 1924 was presented to its new version with an engine capacity of 45 horsepower. But in 1926, the management of Siemens decided to abandon unprofitable production car, selling as well and the company "Protos". Became the new owner of the firm, "NAG", which made several attempts to produce new models, but failed, being confined to the production of new models of old cars, and then, in 1933, the company went bankrupt and was closed.
